OJK Says Electric Vehicle Insurance Regulations Will Be Issued This Year

Printable.biz.id – The Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan or OJK) is currently preparing a revision of regulations related to motor vehicle insurance premium rates, including electric vehicles, as an amendment to OJK Circular Letter (SEOJK) Number 6 of 2017.

"OJK is currently preparing regulations regarding motor vehicle insurance premium rates, including electric vehicles, as an amendment to SEOJK 6/2017, which has been included in OJK's legislative program and is set to be issued in 2025," said Ogi Prastomiyono, Executive Head of Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision (PPDP).

Additionally, he explained that electric vehicle insurance premiums will be regulated differently from conventional vehicles due to risk considerations. This is especially relevant as the number of electric vehicle users continued to increase in 2023.

On the other hand, motor vehicle insurance is the largest contributor to premiums in the general insurance sector, which is projected to grow by 7-8% year-on-year (YoY) in 2025. Moreover, many people are now opting for motorcycles to avoid traffic congestion.

"As in 2024, it is projected that the general insurance industry will be supported by property, credit, and motor vehicle insurance," Ogi stated.
