Printable.biz.id - Recently, there have been reports about BPJS Kesehatan facing limitations in covering all illnesses, with claims that it can only cover partial costs.

Addressing these concerns, the Head of Public Relations at BPJS Kesehatan, Rizky Anugerah, explained that the government has introduced the National Health Insurance (JKN) Program to provide comprehensive coverage for all Indonesians.

“The scope of benefits under the JKN Program managed by BPJS Kesehatan is very broad because the guaranteed healthcare services are based on the medical indications of the participants. Thousands of disease diagnoses are covered under JKN, as stated in Minister of Health Regulation Number 3 of 2023. Furthermore, it is not only costly illnesses that are covered. BPJS Kesehatan also guarantees the costs of healthcare services requiring long-term treatment or even lifelong care, such as dialysis for kidney failure patients, treatment for those with thalassemia and hemophilia, cancer treatment, insulin for diabetics, and many others,” Rizky said on Sunday (19/1).

Although JKN offers many facilities, those who can afford it are encouraged to enroll in private insurance to gain additional and more comprehensive benefits.

“Being a JKN participant is mandatory for every Indonesian citizen. However, for those who can afford it and wish to obtain additional non-medical benefits, private insurance can complement JKN. Private insurance companies can develop their products to cover healthcare services beyond those guaranteed by BPJS Kesehatan. Cooperation opportunities between BPJS Kesehatan and private insurance providers can be explored as long as they do not conflict with existing regulations,” Rizky added
